Motorbike Bingo
Here are some items to put on your Motorbike/scooter bingo cards:
- bike with 5 riders
- bike with 2 helmeted children
- bike with 3 adult riders
- a barefoot driver
- a high-heeled driver
- a side saddle passenger
- a canine passenger
- adult around town with a lower leg/foot injury...
- bike with a load more than 2 meters high
- bike with a load more than 2 meters wide
- bike with modifications for a mobility-impaired rider
They literally go by too fast to snap photos, but so many mental images!
And here are some (sobering) facts:
- Vietnam's population is ~102 million
- There are ~6.5 million registered cars
- And more than 77 million registered motorbikes
- ~90% of households own at least one
- The average fuel economy of a motorbike or scooter is 1/4-1/6 that of a car or SUV
- Almost 75% of traffic accidents involve motorbikes & scooters
- Of the 10,000 traffic related deaths annually, 2,000 are children 0-15
- The child traffic fatality rate in Vietnam is almost 3x the SE Asia average & 5x the EU average
- 90% of traffic deaths are caused by motorcycle accidents
In case you are still thinking of renting one:
- Tourists need an international driver's license with motorcycle endorsement to legally operate a motorbike
- But no license needed for a scooter with a top speed of <50km/hr & a 4kw electric or 50cc petrol engine...
